Custer County Chamber of Commerce
Board of Directors Policy

Board Members are a select group of the Custer County Chamber of Commerce members.  They care enough to donate their time to “make a difference” in the business community, preserve our lifestyle and “the sense of community”.  It requires expertise, a pro-active mindset, and time commitments in a volunteer position, which often, has little recognition for hard work.

BOD Qualifications:

  • Letter of intent submitted by potential BOD members, listing qualifications, reason for desire to serve and any pertinent information
  • Chamber Member in good standing
  • Board members must have business ownership or management background with decision-making experience   -OR-
  • Have strong background in two of the following: marketing, human resources, economics, public affairs, finance
  • Be a pro-active decision maker
  • Understand the time commitments of a “working board”
  • Prefer board experience or relevant community work

BOD Obligations:

  • Cannot miss more than three board meetings in a one-year period
  • Attend at least six monthly member meetings and/or Chamber mixers per year to connect with membership
  • Attend Board Meetings prepared, having read all pertinent documents emailed no less than 24 hours in advance
  • Respond within 4 days to the Weekly Update email from the Director with any required opinions or answers
  • All Board decisions will be by the majority vote – no one Board Member has the authority to make decisions on behalf of the entire Board
  • In case of emergencies, at least two Board members may confer to make a decision on behalf of the Board in regards to day to day activities of the CCMCC
  • Respect and adhere to the Conflict of Interest
  • Develop operational, financial and marketing plans which address the needs of a diverse membership in a struggling economic environment

Committee Work:

  • Must be willing to actively Co-chair a working committee
  • Coordinate with the Director in obtaining monthly Committee Reports when the committee is active
  • Submit input for Event/Committee guidebook revisions as needed

Public Relations:

  • Professional, courteous interaction in all forms of communications with staff, BOD, Chamber members and Community
  • Ambassador to members, and all components of the business and residential community
  • Attempt to attend social functions such as the Christmas Party, Annual Banquet, etc.
